Day 1: London

Image
There's nothing quite like having scalding hot tea dumped on you by a grouchy businessman.  He was attractive and dressed very sharp, but clearly he was unhappy about being crammed into economy class for the six hour flight.  Hey, if he was great at his job, he wouldn't be stuck back in economy class; maybe that's something he should work on.  Fortunately for me, this terrible situation happened only an hour before we landed so I didn't have to sit stickily and unhappily on the plane for too long.       We knew arriving in London at 8 a.m. was going to be difficult, but we definitely underestimated how exhausted we would end up being.  We took about a half hour to get cleaned up and put our things away in our rooms.   My tiny hotel room!       The time difference gave us a swift kick in the rear and we trudged forward.  We made our way to the British Museum, which conveniently happened to be mere blo...

Day 2: Bath

Image
Convincing a group of college students that "waking up early is fun!" is near impossible - especially when said students are jet-lagged and are without coffee in a foreign country.  We piled on our newly-acquired coach bus and made our way from London to the picturesque town of Bath.         We passed beautiful countryside, with these gorgeous fields of golden flowers that seemingly stretched on for miles: Follow the yellow brick road?       Upon our arrival in Bath, we dropped off our luggage for our not-ready-yet rooms and headed into town for some lunch.  We passed this cafe and I thought it was only fitting that I take a picture to document the irony:      We had a delicious lunch at this wonderful place, seated outside in the beautiful sunshine as we people-watched and sipped elderflower water for the first time:       Bath itself is absolutely breath-...

Two and a Half

Amidst packing, running errands, paying bills, making tons of photocopies, reading the required materials for the "class", I'm completely scatterbrained and yet totally organized.  That may not make sense so I'll rephrase: I'm so well organized that I've found I'm completely frazzled without things to worry about!       I'll be packing my suitcase and carry-on bag on Saturday before the flight at 9 p.m.  Pretty much everything that will be packed in them is organized or at least on one of my many lists.  Here are my last few dilemmas: what to wear on the plane, whether or not to pack my laptop and what snacks to pack.  These are life's important questions here, people.       Choosing snacks has so far been the easiest.  I ended up with Nutella To Go, a mini bag of pistachios, a box of  Special K Snacks Multi Grain Crackers, a bar of dark chocolate in case my sweet tooth acts up, and a few granola ba...

Bathroom Essentials

Image
Even though I don't leave until Saturday, I already have my toiletries packed.   I can't pack my clothes yet because they will be rolled up and probably will wrinkle if I leave them like that too long.  However my toiletries are ready to go!   Until I leave, I just take out what I need and then put it back in its bag when I'm done.  So here's what I'm bringing: I have a gallon-sized plastic zip bag filled with my liquids, which will go in my suitcase once it's packed.  The small black makeup bag and a quart-sized plastic zip bag with 3 oz. liquids, plus my toothbrush and my contact lenses case will go in my carry-on bag.      Here is my small plastic bag that will go in my carry-on: On one side (see above), you can see I have a mini toothpaste, eye drops and a box of spare contact lenses.  I can't sleep in my contacts so I will wear my glasses on the plane ride.  The pink case is for my toothbrus...

On the Run Again

Here we go!  About to embark on another adventure!  The countdown has commenced; I leave in six days for a two week study tour in England!  We are taking a red-eye on Saturday the twenty-fifth and will be arriving the twenty-sixth at eight in morning.  We'll be spending fourteen nights in various places.  Here's the latest updated itinerary:  One night in Central London Three nights in Bath Two nights in Winchester Two nights in Glastonbury Three nights in Oxford and finally, three nights in London       We will be staying in various hotels and riding in a motorcoach from city to city.  We'll be doing everything from a three hour tour of Bath to the fashion Museum and Assembly rooms, from Stonehenge to the Tower of London, from the Globe Theatre tour to the British Museum.       I'm so excited to see more than London this time.  Brianne and I were only able to spend about six hours in C...
