Mini Adventure: Memorial Day

Image
I have been talking about visiting the New England Aquarium since Bobby and I first got together.  I went as a child, many many moons ago.  I am a child at heart when it comes to animals and my family humors me.  Since Bobby and I now have the same holidays off, we I decided it would be a good opportunity to go. We once again hopped on the red line and headed into the city.  It was cold and damp, but being the trooper I am, I voted we walk the five blocks to the aquarium from our stop on the red line.  We saw the incredibly long line of people waiting to buy their tickets.  Immediate regret.  So I used my phone to immediately buy our tickets and we got to skip the line.  I highly recommend you buy tickets ahead of time for anything you do if possible.  Ever since our first date when we didn't get to see our movie, we have taken that lesson to heart and always preorder our tickets. I couldn't wait to pet the stingrays.  My mom had to ...

Mini Adventure: Red Sox Surprise

Image
When you try to surprise your boyfriend with Red Sox tickets and you end up in a giant fight because he can't just accept a gift... 😑 Moving on... I got Bobby tickets to see the Red Sox this past weekend!  It wasn't the glorious weather we had in Salem, but it wasn't raining at least.  The ride into Boston was cake; we drove to Quincy Adams and hopped on the red line, then took the green line to Fenway.  On the way we stopped for breakfast (of course).  Nellie Rose is a cute, tiny diner in Whitman, Mass.  It's tight and has a very small-town feel with their regulars and tiny tables.  It was your classic diner breakfast, nothing special but portions were good and the price was definitely right! I have never been to Fenway and I have lived south of Boston my entire life.  I'm a die-hard Patriots fan and I support the Red Sox whenever possible, but I have to admit I don't actively follow them. The game was actually very good. ...

Mini Adventure: Quick Weekend Getaway to Salem

Image
Bobby has been watching Phantom Gourmet more and more frequently now, to the point where I wake up every morning to at least five links to delicious restaurants.  A few weeks ago he had sent me a video of a raw bar in Salem, MA that served their seafood in a tin bucket!  It had a whole steamed lobster, corn on the cob, clams, potatoes and sausage!  It all looked fresh and so delectable.  We had been eyeing it and talking about going, but the weather was never quite right or we had plans on the weekend...etc, etc.   Well we finally had a weekend free this week and we decided to take the plunge!  We took a quick weekend trip, as Bobby's car needed to be repaired Saturday morning and we both had work on Monday. When Bobby's car was out of the shop, we left and headed for Salem.  I live about forty minutes outside of Boston and Salem is another half hour north of Boston.  I accidentally had my Google Maps setting on "Avoid Highways" so we ended up t...

Road Trip: New Jersey Birthdays

Image
To most people, going out of state is exciting.  To myself and my sister, New Jersey is never exciting.  It's a long trip and when we finally get there, we are drowning in family who all want to see us in a very short time period. This past weekend was the first birthday party of our second cousin, Killian.  My mom and sister had met him on their last trip down there, but I had yet to meet him. Prior to the party, my sister and I took our ten year old cousin out shopping.  She's a self-proclaimed diva and an only child.  My sister has limited patience for our cousin, probably because she's ten and needs all the attention on her...and because she's exactly how my sister was at that age!  Everyone was on their best behavior though and so we made it through our shopping excursion in one piece luckily. He's an adorable kid, much like Dopey with his big ears and even bigger good nature.  He's perfectly content to be passed around, kissed, squeezed,...

Mini Adventure: Birthday Wishes

Image
My 21st birthday was a bust.  I don't remember what I did for my 22nd and 23rd birthdays but it couldn't have been exciting since I don't remember it.  This coming Wednesday I will turn 24.  I have a boyfriend, which is weird to talk about.  And it meant added pressure of planning a weekend adventure for us to celebrate my birthday.  I finally settled on Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence Rhode Island, which is about an hour from my house.  I wanted to see Finding Dory as well so I chose dinner and a movie at Patriot Place in Foxboro, home of my favorite team - the New England Patriots! Because I'm an absolute madwoman, I wanted to be at the zoo pretty much as soon as it opened.  I woke up super early, got my hair cut first thing, and anxiously waited for Bobby to pick me up. I have an enormous place in my heart for animals.  My mom is a veterinarian and as a result, I've grown up surrounded by animals.  The one animal I have bee...
